Worn Out

You just moved into a small apartment. The fridge hums. The water heater drips. Everything is fine.

For about forty seconds.

Worn Out is a top-down survival game about planned obsolescence. Your appliances are machines designed to fail and the only way to stay alive is to keep using them. Eat from the fridge. Shower with the water heater. Every action restores you and damages them a little more.

When something breaks, you choose: repair it, cannibalize it for parts, or buy a brand-new machine (same model, same problems). Bills arrive every minute. Coins appear on the floor. Miss a payment and it becomes debt. Let debt climb too high and you’re repossessed.

There is no victory. Only different ways of losing and a high score that measures not your skill, but your quantified level of exploitation.

How to play

  • Arrows - move around the apartment
  • E - interact with a machine or the vendor door
  • 1–N - choose an action from the menu
  • P - pick up money in range

Keep Hunger and Hygiene above zero. Pay your bills. Don’t let every critical machine die.

Features

  • Two critical appliances fighting for your survival: fridge and water heater
  • Repair, clean, unplug, cannibalize, or replace broken machines
  • Bills, debt, and a score that rewards feeding the system
  • Random events: power surges and price hikes
  • Don José, the door-to-door parts vendor who’s always happy to help

Pretty cool idea, and the main mechanics are actually interesting. I played for a bit and I can see the loop working, but after a while it does start to feel a little repetitive.

My first suggestion would be the movement — I think WASD support would make it feel much better. I kept wanting to move with W, A, S, D instead of only the current controls.

Still, nice work overall. The concept has potential, it just needs a bit more variety to keep it fresh longer.
